Note: Beginning with Microsoft Office Outlook , a new Offline Folder file format was introduced that offers greater storage capacity for items and folders and supports multilingual Unicode data. A file that is created in this format is not compatible with earlier versions of Outlook and cannot be opened in an earlier version of Outlook.

Outlook automatically determines the format in which the Offline Folder file is created, based on the version of Microsoft Exchange, the administrator settings, and the formats of the data files that are configured for the profile. If the settings do not allow the file to be created in the new format, Outlook creates the file in the format that is compatible with earlier versions of Outlook that do not support Unicode and that offer the same storage capacity that was available in earlier versions of Outlook.

To use any other folder offline, you must select it for offline use by doing the following:. You can limit downloads of items that exceed a specified size to headers only. Select the Download only headers for items larger than check box, and then enter the size limit that you want in kilobytes KB. After few updates in Windows 10, since today Even after few minutes of turning off offline mode, it stops syncing. Similarly from last 2 weeks my excel is switching to manual calculation every time i open new or old excel file. Click once on Work Offline icon and watch the bottom of your screen. It should revert from offline to online. Note, the red X on Work Offline is part of the icon and does NOT disappear when you flip between online and offline modes. Attempting to switch between online and offline mode when NOT in safe mode may work, but often it does not.

Safe mode will prevent any add-ons from interfering with the normal operation of Outlook. Putting outlook in safe mode is also recommended when attempting to disable or enable add-ons, as sometimes they are not activated or de-activated correctly when in regular mode.
